Croatian Wine Tour

Sold Out!

A select group of individuals is visiting our vineyards in Croatia for intimate tastings and an opportunity to experience "artisanal" wine-making, side-by-side with the families who have been proudly creating wonderful wines for generations.  This amazing trip occurs during the end of the 2019 harvest, with our arrival in Zagreb September 28, 2019 and our departure from Dubrovnik October 6, 2019.

This unique opportunity is a tasting journey.  Imagine sampling indigenous wines, olive oils, specialty foods, harvesting oysters, and hunting for black and white truffles. Beginning in the capital city of Zagreb, we celebrate the wine and food traditions of Istria and Dalmatia.  Exciting stops include Motovun, Zadar, Split, and the beautiful island of Brac before our amazing time in beautiful Croatia concludes in Dubrovnik.

And no worries for those of you who were not able to experience this extraordinary adventure this year because planning is already underway for 2020.

Wines of Croatia

All our Croatian wines are 100% Croatian and each winery makes its wine from grapes grown and cultivated on their
specific vineyard, whether they are the indigenous Plavac Mali, or the global Chardonnay. Our producers combine artisan
growing techniques with the latest production equipment and methods, giving each wine old-world character with modern
quality standards.

Whether it’s one of Croatia’s 64 indigenous grape varieties, or something a bit more familiar, our multi-generational wineries all feature unique and compelling offerings. Learn more by exploring our wineries featured below.

Wines of Slovenia

From the foothills of the Alps to the coast of the Adriatic, Slovenia offers some of the finest and least known wines in the world. With these wines' exceptional quality and virtually unknown status in the American wine community, it is our aim to introduce these wines to retailers and consumers alike. Vinakoper is our Slovenian partner and learn more by clicking on Vinakoper below.

Wines of Italy

Our Italian wines are sourced from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, one of the 20 regions of Italy and one of five autonomous regions. The capital is Trieste. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is Italys north-easternmost region and borders Austria to the north, Slovenia
to the east, and the Adriatic Sea and Croatia, more specifically Istria, to the south. Its cheeses, hams, and wines are exported
not only within Europe but have become known worldwide for their quality. These world renown high-quality wines are what
we are bringing to you for your enjoyment. The Valpanera Winery is our partner and we are excited to bring their fantastic
wines to America.

Wines of Bosnia and Herzegovina

Bosnia and Herzegovina, sitting at the crossroads of Eastern and Western cultures, is producing impressive wines.  The two main wine producing regions are Northern Bosnia and Herzegovina and the primary varietals of Herzegovina are the red, Blatina and the white, Žilavka. Wine has always been a staple of this sun washed land, what was once called Illyria. The tradition of producing quality wine with local varietals continues today and we are honored to offer you these wonderful wines.

Blue Ice Visits Stina Winery

Blue Ice leadership visited the Stina Winery on the island of Brac and the city of Bol recently to observe the Posip and Plavac Mali grape harvest.  Emil Mehdin, the Marketing and Sales Director, hosted Blue Ice August 30th, 2019 at the historic winery constructed in 1903.

The visit began in the tasting room and continued in their conference room where Emil presented various Posip and Plavac Mali varietals.  Of particular interest were the Plavac Mali Majstor and the high-end limited production signature Plavac Mali
Remek Djelo.

We continued into the processing area where Emil explained the various artisanal methods coupled with modern machinery Stina uses to ensure quality.  Because the Posip and white grape harvest had concluded, the processing areas were fully engaged in the production of Stina white wines.  We sampled Chardonnay and Posip juice and prior to any fermenting.  As Emil stated,
“Only great juice makes great wine.”  The barrel room features first-use oak barrels from France and stainless steel barrels.

We were then escorted to a Plavac Mali vineyard facing the Adriatic Sea.  This vineyard rises over 1,500 feet and is positioned to take full advantage of the hearty sun, precipitation and associated drainage, and temperature differences.  The Plavac Mali harvest began September 4th and will take approximately four weeks to complete.  All Plavac Mali grapes are hand-picked

Blue Ice and Stina are expanding their partnership in their collective quest to continue to offer American wine enthusiasts quality Stina wines.  Why not raise a glass today!
